Lets talk percentages

This post is a continuation of the $50 a month stock challenge I started October 14, 2019.  Click on, "No Commission Stock Trades", on the right side of the page to read from the start.

We all learned basic math in school but the easy access to calculators have slowed our brain functions down and what was once second nature to us has some how gotten lost.

In the US stock market we trade in US dollars, therefore 1% is 1 penny on each dollar. Easy-peasy, for every dollar 1% equals  1 penny ($.01). No need to even think about it, for every dollar value of a stock 1% translates to 1 penny.

   Example 1% of stock prices:

   $12.00 = $.12

    $38.00 = $.38

    $152.00 = $1.52

Since we seldom buy or sell stocks on the even dollar, I will round up.
$15.38 will be rounded to $.16

If we want 2% we just double the pennies.

I know you are rolling your eyes and saying, "Everyone knows this stuff!".  How many of you have really thought about percentages regularly.

Starting next week (October 14, 2019) I will start a $50 a month portfolio and if you want to follow along be sure to bookmark this page . I will be telling you what I buy and why. This is a great free stock page that I will use to explain things.

The great thing about this is that no matter when you start (if you do) the stock information for that day will be correct and you just adjust the number of shares for your buying power.

$50 will get us started on our journey. Your comments for or against are encouraged. Comments are on "moderation" just to stop the spam, your opposing views will be posted if they are respectful.

If you do not want your comment published, just say "do not publish".
